Job Description:
One of the world’s leading providers of environmental professional consulting and support services with offices across Ireland are seeking a Senior/Principal Freshwater Ecologist for water projects, schemes and to address general water use and management issues throughout Ireland. You will be a Freshwater Ecologist with a good understanding of hydrology and water quality, and the relationships between these things. You may also be a statistician and/or modeller and used to manipulating ecological data. You will know about and understand the freshwater ecological aspects of ecological status as defined by the Water Framework Directive and will have a good understanding of the kind of measures that need to be implemented to improve aquatic ecology in line with WFD objectives for ‘good status by 2027’. You will need good experience and understanding of the main issues impacting Ireland’s freshwater ecology, such as the impacts from agriculture (nutrients, pesticides) but also from wastewater treatment in urban centres, as well as the impacts of abstractions, discharges and impoundments, and their removal, on freshwater ecology. You will need a good knowledge of the routine metrics and methods used to assess and determine the status of freshwater ecology in Ireland, such as the Q and SSRS scoring systems, or similar. A knowledge of riverine diatoms and other macro and micro- algae, macrophytes and fisheries, especially salmonid, would be an added advantage.
Desirable Skills/Experience:
- Educated to at least Degree level (Level 8/9).
- Relevant work experience, at least some of which will be in a consultancy environment.
- Chartered Scientist, Environmentalist or Ecologist.
- Experience of undertaking business development and client engagement.
- Experience pf proposal and tender writing and winning and delivering won work.
- Full Irish/EU driving licence.
