About the Role

A leading multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced Principal Civil Engineer to join its Galway team. This is an excellent opportunity for a Chartered Engineer to lead civil engineering projects across a diverse range of sectors, including aviation, education, residential, healthcare, industrial, commercial and energy.

You will take responsibility for civil design delivery while working closely with multidisciplinary teams, clients and other project stakeholders. The role also provides an opportunity to lead and mentor a small team of engineers and technicians.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of civil engineering projects.
• Provide technical oversight across all civil engineering elements.
• Lead drainage and watermain design and provide input throughout project delivery.
• Apply sound knowledge of basic road design principles.
• Prepare and review planning, tender and construction-stage reports.
• Prepare and review engineering design calculations.
• Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
• Act as Ancillary Certifier for civil engineering elements on building projects.
• Lead, support and coordinate a small team of civil engineers and technicians.
• Mentor and develop junior team members.
• Manage project and team workloads to meet deadlines and quality requirements.

Requirements

• Chartered Engineer status with Engineers Ireland or equivalent.
• Proven experience leading civil engineering projects.
• Strong technical experience in drainage and watermain design.
• Knowledge of road design principles.
• Ability to work independently and take technical ownership.
• Experience leading or coordinating a small engineering team.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent organisational and time-management abilities.
• Experience with civil design software such as Causeway or MicroDrainage.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and project deadlines.
