Job Title: Senior/Principal Ecological Consultant

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior/Principal Ecologist to join a leading nationwide ecological consultancy. You will have the opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of high quality ecological services for major projects across the UK, whilst ensuring the continued professional development of junior team members. If you have proven experience in an ecological consultancy and have a successful track record of staff management and project management of large and complex projects, then we’d like to hear from you.

Role & Company:

In joining this expanding ecology team, you will have lots of scope to shape the projects that you work on, with considerable project management and business development responsibilities supported by the Lead Ecologist. You will be working on a diverse portfolio of projects across multiple sectors, from smaller scale infrastructure projects to massive transport and highway projects. You will be surveying and mitigating works regarding protected species as well as undertaking and writing scoping, Phase 1 habitat surveys and developing ecological management plans. Alongside the fieldwork, you will play a key role in supporting the Lead Ecologist and you will also have the autonomy to work on key elements of project management including reviewing reports as well producing tenders, client liaison, financial management and project programming.

You will be joining a leading specialist ecology consultancy, with a nationwide ecology team of approximately seventy. Based across six different offices, this consultancy offers a people focused, family orientated approach. The ecology team is well supported by a number of project officers, organising fieldwork logistics, as well as an in-house GIS team.

Qualifications & Experience:

The successful candidate will have:

* Ideally 5+ years of professional experience
* Degree (MSc desirable) in a relevant scientific field (ecology, biology, environmental science or similar)
* Full CIEEM membership
* Excellent report writing skills
* Sound knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and planning policy
* Experienced in ecological surveying, particularly for bats, GCN and reptiles
* Hold a European protected species and/or mitigation licence (desirable)
* Have experience with EPSM licence preparation and delivery (desirable)
