Cathcart Energy are currently recruiting for a Research Engineer to be located within the Marine Energy Engineering Centre of Excellence.

The Marine Energy Engineering Centre of Excellence (MEECE) is a multi-million-pound collaboration with the Welsh universities, funded by the Welsh European Funding Office. Based at Pembroke Dock, the Centre delivers research, development and demonstration activities to support innovation in the Welsh supply chain, accelerating the commercialisation of the wave, tidal and offshore wind sectors by reducing the cost of energy.

As a Research Engineer, you will support the delivery of innovation projects involving, design, specification, construction and testing of components, subassemblies, small prototypes and full products for the marine energy sector.

The team possesses a flexible approach to the challenges faced by innovators and Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs), they are solution-oriented and passionate about supporting the ongoing evolution of the offshore marine energy industry.

The successful candidate will have experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams and will be experienced in electronic systems and applications in a marine environment.

The Research Engineer will have experience of and be involved in designing and implementing data collection systems, devising and applying data processing solutions together with sensor integration solutions and battery-power systems.

To succeed in the role the Research Engineer will have the following attributes:

* Educated to at least degree level in electronic engineering or computer science
* Experience in programming hardware/software interfaces
* In-depth knowledge of data acquisition systems
* Sound knowledge of electronic engineering in an applied marine environment.
* Track record in specification and implementation of electronics systems
* Programming experience in MATLAB, Python, or similar relevant tools
* Motivated and strong team player – working individually, within and across multi-functional project teams.
* Knowledge of and the application of good practice engineering design procedures and tools.
* Familiarity with advanced specialist engineering software in an inter-disciplinary project setting.
* Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
* Excellent interpersonal skills.
